First Visit to Great Gram's

What a nice couple of hours!  This was Izzie's first visit to my house, and the first time I've seen her since she came home from the hospital.  She came for lunch with her mom and grandma.

Izzie had a bottle.  We had salads and smoothies from Robek's.  Perfect for another hot summer day.

Izzie has on the little summer dress that I bought for the first shower...it says Daddy's Little Princess on it.  Might be the first and only time she wears it (newborn size) because only the center snap on the bottom would snap.  Long torso, I guess.

Here is a photo I took this afternoon.  So sweet.

Hi, Great Gram!

I'm still a little punchy after last night!

Here are some photos I took this afternoon of Izzie at 21 hours old.  This followed a long labor and a couple of medical issues.  Izzie is currently confined to the hospital nursery.  I hope her issues will be resolved in a day or so and that she will be given the AOK to go home with mom and dad.

And there is no doubt now...she really does look like mom when she was born!

Hopes and prayers for a clean bill of health for this precious little one.

A New Life Has Begun

My great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne, has been born.  Today is the start of her life in the outside world. 
I am so happy for Kyle and Kenny.  And for the new grandmas and grandpas...first time for most.  And for the great-grandparents.  And for Aunt Lindsey and Uncle Cody.  Boy, that sounds funny!

I was in Medina when you were born.  On the way home I remember looking at the sky, because I wanted to remember how it looked on the night you were born, Izzie.  There were some clouds, but also some stars, and half of a yellow moon.  Today was a hot day...one of many that we have had recently.  They are predicting that Friday might be the hottest day of the year so far.  You will probably be at home with your mom and dad by then.

You are a big girl...9 pounds, 7 ounces, and 21 inches long.  Your mom is pretty tall and your dad is very tall.  Everybody who has seen your picture so far thinks you look like your mom.  I can hardly wait until tomorrow to see for myself.

Sleep well mom, dad, and baby Izzie.  You have had a busy 24 hours.  Good night...

Tuesday's child is full of grace...

Being on baby watch is hard work!  There is the fun of the anticipation and dreams for the future. 
There is also concerns over what might transpire.

I'm sending out a lot of prayers for a safe and easy birth, a healthy and happy baby and mama, and a wonderful future for all involved.

We're waiting...somewhat patiently!  Can't wait to see you, Izzie.

Is Anyone Else Having Doubts?

I can't quite get over wondering whether Izzie will, in fact, come out as Izzie and not Ozzie!  That ultrasound test seems like an awfully long time ago.  And very early in the game.

We have a lot of pink things!

Everyone I mention this to has a story of a baby that they thought would be one gender...and came out the other.  These stories aren't funny to me!

Baby Bears

I have plans to start a cross stitched bear for Izzie floating around in my mind this afternoon.  I think I'll try to make two...one small one (a Teddy Babe) and one larger one.  These are from the old (1986) publication from Liz Turner Diehl called Nicholas and Friends.  Jan made a couple of these years ago.  It's time for me to give it a try!

I think the baby one will have a stitched pink ribbon at her neck.  The stitching is pretty basic.  The putting together might be another matter for me, but I am confident that I can handle it.  I'll post pictures once I get her started!

Waiting for Izzie

Now that we're (we?) down to the wire...Izzie's due date is one week from tomorrow...the waiting and anticipation are getting harder and harder.  And I'm only the Great Gram to be!

Awaiting a new special part of your family is much different at my age than in the innocence of youth.  I have had much more concern - and prayers - over the past few months about good health, what kind of world is this sweet child being born into, what problems might arise...

Thankfully those concerns are eventually put aside by visions of a wriggly little girl dressed in pink...at least at my house (!), how much might she look like her mother or father, what will her personality be a year from now - five years from now, seeing her and her second cousin (I think that's right) Isabella together for the first time that they acknowledge the presence of each other, and on and on.  So much to look forward to.

Bless you, sweet Elizabeth.  We are anxiously awaiting your arrival.
